My Background and Approach
Karen utilizes an eclectic approach which includes Rogerian, psychoanalytic, schema therapy, REBT, and CBT to help the client better understand their past, their thoughts, and their behaviors with the goal of helping create a fulfilling future for themselves. She works with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, employment stressors, OCD, phobias, immigrations, and adjustment issues, . She previously worked with adolescents, adults, and families from a wide variety of cultural, socioeconomic, sexual, and gender backgrounds during her tenure in social services settings and outpatient clinics throughout the city.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Throughout my time in being a therapist, I continue to connect most with the Asian American community. I have worked for many years in agencies and communities dedicated to serving the immigrant populations. I believe that all communities should have access to quality mental health care. I am most passionate with working with those in the Chinese American and Chinese communities as they have not had access to mental health care and giving them the space that they may not have possessed in their country of origin. My goal is to break down the preconceived notion of what therapy is and assist them in understanding themselves.
