It's okay to have big emotions! It's how we learn to cope that matters.
Mental Health Counselor in Fishers, IN

As a clinician who provides services to clients with depression, trauma & emotion dysregulation, I find that DBT is the best approach to utilize. I have discovered that distress tolerance & coping skills cover a wide variety of client issues. I have practiced this approach over the years & have refined my use of activities to fit each individual client based on age and personal need.
Play therapy techniques are my specialty. As for my directive approaches, I provide stability & routine for my clients who need more instruction in the therapy room. As for my nondirective approaches, I utilize my clinic's play therapy room where I also engage in sand tray techniques. Attachment-based play therapy sessions are important for me to help improve the guardian/child relationship. I sometimes pull from Theraplay curriculum to implement personalized family play therapy sessions.
Attending graduate school in this day & age thoroughly prepared me for implementing CBT approaches. I find it crucial to identify irrational thoughts that contribute to behavioral issues. Breaking down thoughts and behaviors piece-by-piece help me & my clients further understand the implications of their mental health needs. When using CBT, I often assign homework to encourage therapeutic change in the office & in the community.
Child issues are my jam! I work to create a stable environment for children & adolescents to work through their problems & mental health needs. I find that most of my work is done with youth who have a variety of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, & so much more. I have over 5 years of experience working with this population in residential, inpatient & outpatient settings. My goal is for youth to leave my office feeling lighter and more prepared to take on the world!
As a provider who realizes the impact of LGBTQIA+ issues, I believe that creating a safe space to discuss these issues is essential. I want my clients to feel heard & accepted in every way as I provide services to them. My goal is for my clients to leave the office feeling affirmed and respected. My experience with this population includes working with transgender, transitioning, and nonbinary youth. I also have experience working with clients who are questioning with their sexuality.
Although trauma is not an easy thing to discuss, it is crucial to improve overall functioning. I try to create a calm, judgement-free environment for my clients to process through their trauma(s) & discuss the implications. My goal is to empower clients to rewrite their trauma narrative & take back control of their life. I have experience working with clients ages 3-60 with physical, emotional and/or sexual trauma, parental/spousal neglect, & domestic or community violence.
