Grief and loss are a part of the human condition. Grief is typically considered to be brought on by the death of a loved one, but can also be triggered by any significant life-altering loss (such as a divorce or the loss of a job). Grief is a natural response to loss, but that doesn’t make it easy to deal with. Symptoms of grief may include sadness, loneliness, anger, denial, depression and a myriad of other thoughts and feelings. There is no “normal” amount of time for grief to pass, but if you find that your grief is not improving over time or that it is interfering with your everyday life, you may want to consider seeking professional help. I'm Meg Decker (she/her), a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who works with adults of all ages. Many of my clients come to therapy to address issues related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, prenatal and postpartum challenges, and issues related to relationships and self-worth. I use EMDR therapy to help people recover from trauma. My preferred model of EMDR is the "intensive" model, in which we meet for a longer period of time per session (1.5 - 3 hours per session), for a smaller, total number of sessions. Research has shown that this type of approach can be very effective in helping people recover, and begin living their lives to the fullest once more.
