Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. If you think you may be experiencing PTSD, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s specialists today to get help.

I specialize in trauma as a whole, not just PTSD. I have training and certifications in trauma-informed care from Lock Haven University. I have a deep understanding of what trauma is and how it affects us throughout our lives. As someone working with marginalized folks, I fully comprehend the impact of when traumatic events and oppression intersect.

I work with individuals and their families on issues related to trauma, self-harm, attachment struggles, individual and group relationship dynamics, domestic violence, relational boundaries, – and the way these factors and mental health symptoms play out in patterns in people’s lives. I’ve also worked with children and adolescents identifying as part of the LGBTQIA community, who inspire incredible strength and resilience.

"My mental health has taken a turn for the worst, but I’m the one who helps other people.” Sound like you? If so, depression and anxiety can show up when we are constantly stressed with unhealthy relationships & boundaries. We feel guilty asking for help, so we say we’re “fine”—and almost believe it— but when we hide our issues, we can find ourselves drinking more, experiencing anxiety attacks, and/or contemplating ending it all. What you're experiencing is evidence that it's time for a change.
