Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. I typically work with children, teens, adults and families. I work with children and teens on issues such as anxiety, stress management, navigating family roles, identity and relationship concerns. I work with adults on employment/career concerns, relational difficulties, family of origin issues, complex trauma, anxiety and panic attacks. I work with my client's to help them increase their self-confidence, navigate stressful life events and build healthy, supportive relationships with others.

I specialize in relationship counseling and I want to help you feel more connected to the important people in your life. You do not need to be married to benefit from relationship counseling, and I am happy to work with you where you are in your relationship. I am affirming and knowledgeable about working with LGBTQIA+ relationships. I love working with many different kinds of people, and I value safety and inclusiveness in my practice.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.
