About My Clients
My expertise is in working with folks who have a fair bit of contact with the healthcare system (either healthcare providers or those who have physical health issues), or people with anxiety, OCD, or trauma-related disorders. This expertise is drawn from 10+ years working in the medical system, whether it’s in my current position as faculty at Rutgers - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School training resident physicians or as a primary care-mental health fellow at the Philadelphia VA.
My Background and Approach
Your physical and mental health are deeply intertwined. With mental health difficulties being so all-encompassing, you deserve therapy that meets that challenge: evidence-based, first-line care that helps you live your best life as quickly as possible. Whether it’s worrying if a treatment for your chronic illness will finally be enough, panic attacks causing you to change your daily routine to avoid the worst, or the overwhelming stress of taking care of others at work leaving you on empty when you get home, struggling to cope is a head-to-toe experience. Your care should address every inch of what's making life difficult. My goal is to do the absolute best for others, demystify this process, and have therapy be meaningful and joyful. That feeling when you finally go on vacation - the last day of school, the first day at the beach, or just the moment when you can close your laptop for a while - that’s where I want to get you to. Drop me a line if you want to know more!
My Values as a Therapist
I believe that therapy should be transparent, clear, and accessible to folks, and try to practice with that forever in mind. I want therapy with me to feel like you're working with a real three-dimensional person, who knows what the science supports but doesn't deliver it in a way that feels like you're speaking to a very kind algorithm. I also believe that if you don't want to, you shouldn't need to be in therapy forever - we all leave busy lives, and if I can make myself obsolete then I've done my job well! My goal is to not just help you when you're with me, but teach you exactly what I'm doing so that you're just as good at implementing skills when you're talking to me or when you haven't seen me in months. Therapy shouldn't be an unknowable process that you have to surrender to. If a physician is prescribing you a medicine, you should know how it impacts your body, and in the same way if a psychologist is delivering therapy you should know exactly why it's helpful.
