Gilbert BlissLicensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C
My interest in counseling started as a volunteer when I was in college. From there, I went on to work in the Maryland prison system, mainly seeing people who had been involved with substance abuse. I also spent time in other occupations, including sales and carpentry, which has helped me understand the struggles of daily life. Since my return to psychotherapy as a profession, I have brought these experiences to bear in my work and have continued my own therapy in order to be prepared and available to the people with whom I work. Much of my work has been informed by my experience with my own family. Many people think that therapists must have had perfect lives, but the best ones I know, like myself, have had real experiences that help us understand the people we work with because of similar experiences.
