Welcome! My name is Julie, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in individual, teen & family, and gender affirming therapy
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Arlington, VA
At Syracuse University, I was on a special team of therapists and professors that provided therapy to transgender clients and their families--helping them explore their gender identity, transition, obtain hormone replacement therapy, name and gender changes, etc., as well as being a consistent source of support during what many describe as an isolating and challenging experience
Prior to starting Top Thrive Therapy LLC, I worked at multiple government agencies with at-risk teens and their families. I can help address behavioral issues as well as increase connection between teens and their parents.
With a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have specialized training in assessing and providing insight into patterns and cycles that can keep relationships stuck
What I like about IFS is that it's very intuitive. As we go through life, difficult experiences can lead us to create defense mechanisms that we put in place to protect ourselves from feeling vulnerable. Although those protective parts are necessary and helpful to our survival, sometimes they can go on overdrive and overtake our entire being. IFS can ease those protective parts so that we can feel more connected to our pre-traumatized selves and learn to once again, live a full & balance life
My passion is to help families who are hanging on by a string. The love that parents have for their children is universal. Every parent wants to provide their children with more than what they had growing up. But the blueprint of parenting that we were raised by is entirely different from the blueprint needed to raise a teen in our ever-changing, technology-driven, modern day culture. Parenting is the most humbling journey with the most steep learning curve but you are not alone.
I have a Certificate of Advanced Study in Trauma Informed Care from Syracuse University and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have extensive knowledge and experience in working with complex trauma, childhood trauma, and PTSD. There is no one size fits all approach to finding a way forward following traumatic experiences. I can tailor your therapy to meet your specific needs.
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), I understand how stress can negatively impact the body physically, mentally, and emotionally and methods that can be helpful in relieving those symptoms.
