About My Clients
I’m proud of you for summoning the courage to take this meaningful step on your healing journey. I know this feels scary right now. I’m here to help you feel safe. When we feel safe, we can open up. When we open up, we can let it out and finally put down what we’ve been carrying. You’ve been carrying the feeling that you’re not good enough for too long. You don’t have to feel like that any longer. You are good enough and you always have been. Our work together will show you how to love yourself.
My Background and Approach
Hi, I’m Matt. I’m a licensed clinical psychotherapist who studied and trained at Columbia University. Being a therapist is my true calling. Personal mental health challenges as a young adult exposed me to the healing power and transformative potential of therapy. My own experience profoundly changed me – it opened my heart and caused me to devote my life to helping others suffering as I had. I value inclusion in my practice and welcome diversity in all its beautiful forms. We all come from different upbringings and each person has a different world view, meaning different crises break them down in different ways. You know, whatever brought you here today. But, what’s the same is that a crisis can always be a catalyst for transformational growth. I’ve lived through these cycles personally and I’ve guided clients just like you through them professionally. Now, it’s your turn.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
When life breaks you down it also breaks you open. These cracks let in the light that illuminates one’s true self. It’s possible to be more beautiful after the breaking. It’s possible to transform shame into pride. I know because I’ve experienced it myself. I know because, as a therapist, I’ve helped my clients experience it, as well. During weekly sessions, I practice trauma-informed care, a strength-based approach that shifts a client's focus from “what’s wrong with me?” to “what happened to me?” This simple re-framing has a profound ripple. It allows us to unlock compassion and pride for ourselves and release misplaced shame and blame. When we allow ourselves to be present and connect with our feelings we can reconnect to ourselves and unlock joy. I’ve seen time and time again that my different approach does more than just relieve painful symptoms. It leads to peace, self-love and self- compassion. Our work together will show you how this can happen for you.
