Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

I use tele-health on a HIPAA secure platform and can meet with any client in Washington State. Having a hard time finding a therapist that fits with your schedule? I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, self-criticism/self-esteem, family of origin issues, and trauma-related concerns. In therapy, we will work toward symptom management and relief, but also toward a life filled with greater purpose, meaning, and contentment. If you are feeling stuck and just don't know where to start, schedule a 15 minute consultation (free of charge) to learn more about if my therapeutic style could be a good fit for your needs.

Many of my clients tend to be queer, young adults who have experienced childhood trauma and are prepared to begin the healing journey, or perhaps pickup where they may have previously left off. I also work with queer folks who have had negative, abusive, or toxic experiences within church/religion because of their gender or sexuality. This is certainly not an exclusive list but meant to provide insight into where my passion and expertise lie.

My clients are classic helpers and do-ers- overfunctioning and often managing many things at once. The people I work with care deeply about authenticity, justice, and connection and are often practicing boundaries, and holding space for themselves. We do this together with a focus on embodiment, re-parenting themselves, and feeling out the shape of their particular needs.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

About ½ my clients are couples. My individual clients represent a broad spectrum of society, from those who are struggling to pay their bills to those who are economically secure. My clients represent all genders and flavors of sexual orientations. The unifying characteristic that all my clients share is that they are looking for safety and are ready to work on healing the wounds that we all carry, to greater or lesser extents.

You as the client may need a supportive space to explore emotional experiences, systemic challenges, or relationship upset. Therapy should be a place to connect with vulnerable parts of yourself, heal, and grow. As a therapist, I consider it my job to help you to feel more grounded, more empowered, and more confident in your own ability to create the life and relationships you want and need. I want to collaborate with you to reach your goals and become more of who you are.

I enjoy working with queer people of color, especially queer-identified Asian Pacific-Islander folks.I also have a particular interest in working with those in the helping professions such as essential workers, therapists, and those who identify as community organizers/activists. So often, the stories we believe about ourselves were given to us by other people. And most of the time, these stories were not actually meant to serve us, but to serve the people around us. This split from our truth creates symptoms of self-doubt, anxiety, shame, depression, loneliness, body-hate, people pleasing, chronic burn-out, and more. In our work together, we'll dig out the stories that no longer serve you, and create space for authenticity, belonging, and connection to take root.

You are intelligent and sensitive. People seek your advice and support, and you give it. But, when it comes to yourself, your clarity, confidence, and compassion somehow evade you. Instead, you experience confusion, anxiety, difficulty making choices/decisions. You may wonder if there is someone who can support you. Would they even be able to truly see and deeply understand you, hear you even at times when you can't find the words to express what's in your heart? Yes, and this your turn.
