My Background and Approach
My approach to psychotherapy integrates mind and body by bridging attachment, family systems and relational skills and knowledge with innovations in body-oriented methods that support the resolution of traumatic stress in the mind-body system. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology, and am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic Experiencing (SE) understands that traumatic stress resides in the nervous system (rather than the event), and results from the inability to complete self protective survival responses at the time they were needed. While we seemingly appear to "move on," following events that overwhelm our capacity to cope, often the nervous system remains "stuck," in the activation associated with the event. What I LOVE about the SE method is how effective it is in supporting people in shifting from states of survival (anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, etc.) to states of thriving and optimal aliveness.
