Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

Do you have trouble understanding what you’re feeling, or why you’re feeling it? Maybe you often ask “does that make sense?”, unsure whether your thoughts are coming across how you want them to. Or you find that you're really hard on yourself, with a running narrative of “I’m the worst!”. Perhaps you’re scared to get things wrong, and feel unable to trust yourself to know what you want, let alone how to get there. If you relate to this and want to feel less anxious and more at ease, I can help!

I help clients who are experiencing gender dysphoria, anxiety, self-criticism and shame, who are wanting to challenge their inner critic and show compassion toward every part of themselves. I love helping clients deconstruct shame and develop shame resilience in order to build empathy and compassion for themselves.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

You feel anxious and it's hard to shut your brain off. People tell you to relax, but it's not that easy for you. You've worked hard to get where you are, but it's hard to sit back and enjoy it. Your standards for yourself feel too high, and you question how long you can keep this up. You tend to doubt yourself and your abilities and look to other people to reassure you. It's hard to take up space, feel confident, and speak your truth. A better way forward is possible in therapy.

Maybe anxiety has made your world small and lonely, or depression and feelings of worthlessness have kept you disconnected from yourself and your loved ones and have held you back from the life you want. Perhaps you've developed ways of engaging with others and with yourself that once protected you in difficult or traumatic circumstances; however, these patterns now result in pain that is becoming unbearable. Whatever suffering brings you here, you don't have to bear it alone.
