Like many children of immigrants, emotions and mental health came second to keeping my head down and focusing on surviving. I know what it’s like to feel confused about my worth and to not have an outlet where I could believe I mattered. I’ve seen how others around me were trying their best to make sense of their own mental health without having the vocabulary to name their experiences. My Background and Approach
I'm Richard (he/him), a gay Taiwanese-American therapist. I provide telehealth therapy for adults and specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, racial and intergenerational distress, replacing unhealthy behaviors, and chronic illnesses. I use a combination of behavioral and relational therapies to provide culturally- and queer- affirming care. My goal as a therapist is to center a person’s lived experience in the work we do together in achieving a fulfilling life. Your experiences matter in informing the pace we go at, the approach we take, and the goals we work towards.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Being open in therapy can be a big risk to take and I take that vulnerability seriously. Everything we do, from the challenges to the successes, has your lived experiences at the center. Taking care of our mental health is a continuous journey and my role is to make sure therapy supports you during and beyond our time together. What you want matters and it's not my place to cast judgment - only support. When we talk about goals to set and what you'd like to change, the discussion is based on your values and needs to make sure the work we do together is relevant and meaningful.
