About My Clients
For kids and parents, hard times are inevitable and often recurrent, leaving us feeling stuck or unable to cope. Do you find yourself avoiding the meltdowns or giving in to "keep the peace?" Are you overcome with a sense of fear that anther tantrum is near, just waiting to be tagged in without warning? Maybe a traumatic event has occurred and you're unsure of how to put life back together. If simply surviving is your current best, I can help you see that thriving in life is not out of reach.
My Background and Approach
My approach is always a reflection of one's unique self and needs. Becoming fully-integrated is crucial. I've worked with kids and families to educate and develop understanding and implementation of strategies so they are no longer intimidated by tantrums or defiant behaviors. I've worked in child advocacy centers where I gained extensive knowledge of the impact of trauma and abuse, and utilized evidenced based treatments to overcome past or recurrent adverse experiences. I conducted forensic interviews and aided in seeking justice for victims. I have experience in school-based counseling where I improved my ability to identify and encompass all aspects or levels of child development, striving to reframe the idea of a "bad kid." I have worked with clients facing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, familial strain, etc. I emphasize self-directed learning to acquire tools for long-lasting change for all ages and background.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly believe in meeting clients where they are, reinforcing existing inner strengths, and discovering novel ways to thrive in situations you've simply been surviving. I find it important to not only help teach new strategies, but to first develop a trusting relationship and safe space where we can collaboratively challenge the past, present, and future problems. We assess readiness to change, and learn the reasons behind the responses that don't align with your values or help reach your life goals. I believe in using narration to explore experiences that shape us, and retell events that could have negative impacts on us or our children. My goal is to help all overcome the trap of pushing things down deep in order to continue on, and finding true strength in exposing ourselves to and conquering each battle we face at any age or stage of life.
