Hello, I'm Trilby. I work with children, adolescents, and families in regaining their strengths in the midst of life's obstacles.
Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in Greenville, SC
Supervised by Julie Dillon, Ed.S., LMFT/S, RPT/S
Through the power of play, a child can process many concerns within themselves, and the world around them. I am passionate in using play as tool to help children discover hidden strengths, process stressful events, connect their emotions and thoughts with their behaviors, and to fight worries and doubts. I have taken many trainings and courses focused on play therapy techniques and theory, and I am currently working towards my Registered Play Therapist certification.
As an LMFT-A, I am trained to view the family as a cohesive unit. Some of our issues and concerns derive from our closest family relationships; at times they may cause us more stress than security. I see parent-child relationships, sibling relationships, and even multi-generational family relationships, and help process communication patterns, power hierarchies, family rules/roles, and past trauma and conflict. My goal is to aid a family towards a state of peace.
The teenage years can be one of the most confusing and challenging points in a person's life. I have counseled adolescents both in individual and group sessions. I use both psycho-educational and experiential techniques to help adolescents discover their true potential. I aid adolescents with developing assertive communication skills, struggling with family conflict, self-esteem growth, dealing with anger, self-harm/depression, and anxiety.
Good parenting builds an engaging and encouraging relationship with a child. I am passionate in helping parents overcome obstacles that may be negatively influencing the parent-child relationship; and creating a structured relationship that increases attachment. I am certified in the STEP parenting program and currently offer parenting groups at EMERGE Family Therapy Center in Spartanburg, SC.
I believe children deserve equal amounts of attention as adults when it comes to mental health concerns. I work with children through the expression of play, a child's true language. I use a combined CCPT and CBTP approach, working with children as young as four years old. I have worked with children dealing with behavioral issues such as anger and ADHD, grief, anxiety, trauma, and different types of life transitions. I am currently working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
