About My Clients
I see therapy as team-work. My clients are motivated and willing to examine what is working/not working in their lives. If you come with curiosity, I will meet you where you are at and help you look at your "stuck" patterns and foster new ones. I use a compassionate approach to help you make space for sadness, pain, anxiety, shame, relief, joy...you name it! All I ask for is your openness to introspect.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). This means that I am trained to work with different levels of the client system: individuals, couples, families and groups. I received by B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Religious Studies from Northwestern University. I completed my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. There, I did a one year practicum in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). In 2016, I completed a Fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to gain expertise in treating anxiety disorders and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD. I received training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders through Postpartum Support International's Components of Care Certificate Training. I love working with Women's Mental Health. I'm passionate about couples work. I've completed all levels of advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy needed before certification, which I plan on pursuing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that change IS possible! It may not be immediate and it may entail work, but I am here to support my clients in that pursuit. I am someone who strives toward cultural sensitivity and competency. I grew up as a "Third Culture Kid" moving around the world. I understand how much our environment matters. As a Swede, I provide therapy in Swedish for Scandinavian clients. I also 100% believe in the healing power of animals and am an avid dog-lover.
