About My Clients
I work with a wide range of clients dealing with issues related to depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief/loss, anger management, women's issues, mood disorders, self-injury, identity, life changes/transitions, relationship difficulties, work/life balance, and empowerment. I can be a part of driving your change forward as we explore your goals, build a firm commitment to your future, and take the power back in your life to make and maintain those changes.
My Background and Approach
My approach centers on therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, EMDR, and Mindfulness practices. My priorities are placed firmly on collaboration, transparency, and humor to promote insight and change in a safe, strengths-focused, and personalized environment.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are made up of systems within systems and we operate inside systems within systems. Context matters and we cannot understand where we have been, where we are, and where we are going without taking the context of these systems and their impact on us into account. Psychology is invaluable in understanding how we operate and why, but we run into problems when we start pathologizing the human experience, rich with both positive and negative emotions, by ignoring the context. More often than not it isn't that we are having abnormal responses, but rather we are having completely normal/predictable/reasonable responses to abnormal situations. My goals is to, personally and professionally, create and advocate for equity as well as understanding of how we have been impacted by various systems, and how we can move forward to empower ourselves and others to create the lives we hope to see. Oh, and, equal access to health care and education is a human right.
