About My Clients

Do you feel like you 'should' know how to overcome your problems, but still feel stuck? It can be so overwhelming when you see a problem and don't know how to fix it. It can help to focus on the specifics, like thoughts, feelings and situations, while also 'zooming out' to understand how culture, values, and systems contribute to your experience. I create a safe space for you to explore the intersection of your identities to help you understand yourself and feel empowered.

My Background and Approach

I have 14 years of experience working with clients in different settings including counseling and addiction treatment programs. My areas of expertise include working with concerns related to identity, life transitions, relationships, and intergenerational issues as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and substance use. I am a certified addictions therapist. I will work with you to understand the intersection of your identities, values, and beliefs, with the understanding that they are multi-faceted. My goal is to meet you where you are and understand the context of your life (familial, social, cultural, I use CBT, self-compassion, mindfulness and strengths-based approaches with clients. I focus on helping you understand your thoughts and feelings within the context of your identity, social environments, and family patterns. It's so important to acknowledge that you don't choose all of these systems/environments, so we look at these from an intersectional lens.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe growth comes from being open and asking questions, but most importantly, through listening. I value curiosity, compassion, and community. I support social justice, including the Black Lives Matter movement and reproductive rights, and am an ally to the LGBTQ community. Being anti-racist is an active process, not just a way of thinking. And, I support liberation from oppressive systems through decolonizing therapy. Yes, it is helpful to learn skills to cope with depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship challenges, life transitions. AND, these must be seen through the lens of the spaces you navigate. I prioritize decolonizing work through my professional training and in my own therapy. All therapists should be going to therapy! Lastly, it is brave to be vulnerable, to open up to another person, to ask for help. I want to acknowledge the step you’ve already taken in looking for a therapist, and I would be honored to support you in your self-exploration and healing.
