I fell in love with the Gottman Method as a client, when my wife and I started couples counseling with a Gottman certified therapist. The techniques simply worked, and years later, when I started working with couples, I started using them myself. I now have Level 2 training in Gottman Method couples therapy, and I use it because I believe in it. I believe in it because it made real, lasting difference. It saved my marriage.

IFS is a wonderful blend of psychotherapy and spirituality. It combines Eastern notions of Self with the self psychology of Freud and Jung, and the everyday experience we all have of our "parts." You know, the feeling that part of you wants one thing, but part wants another. One part of you wants more cake, another part says no, cake bad. And whenever one part wins out, another gets hacked off and grumbles. IFS restores balance and harmony to our inner world, so the Self can shine.

I interned alongside medical doctors and psychologists in the Family Medicine unit at JPS Health Network, the largest training hospital for family medicine practitioners in the U.S., and ranked #1 in the U.S. by Washington Monthly Magazine. Together we provided integrated behavioral health care to patients struggling with severe anxiety and depression, helping them overcome their challenges using cutting-edge evidence-based psychotherapies.

As a child, it seemed all the marriages in my family had fallen apart. So when mine got rocky, my wife and I decided we needed couples counseling. It was incredibly helpful. Years later, during my family therapy practicum at Texas Wesleyan Community Counseling Center, I discovered the rewards of working with couples myself. I now offer in-person relationship therapy through Stanford Couples Counseling in Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as online therapy for all Texas residents.

Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are intimately connected. Each one tugs at the others. When our thoughts are negative, our feelings and actions tend to be as well. When emotion is positive, positive thoughts and behaviors follow. Our behaviors can lead us, too. When we are feeling depressed, if we get up and do something active, something positive, our thoughts and feelings can follow along. CBT is all about mastering this interplay, making sure it takes us where we want to go.
