About My Clients
Most of the individuals drawn to me are people who find themselves in the midst of a transition in their life. Many are college students, transplants, frequent travelers and interstate commuters who want a consistent presence to check in at a time when change is not only inevitable but overwhelming.
My Background and Approach
I am an integrative therapist because I don't believe everyone responds to therapy in the same manner. I have my doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis on health. My experience ranges from community to university to in patient settings. Growing up in a culture where traditional talk therapy is perceived as a unnatural I have leaned into brain/body based therapies such as Brainspotting. Ultimately, my goal during my 85 minute intake is gain a greater understanding of the internal and external factors that have shaped a Clients life and the manner in which my Client processes information. This knowledge will help me determine which approach can be most beneficial in helping my client achieve their goal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I trained at the Los Angeles LGBT center for one year and the one of the many takeaways I have from that experience that translates to any population I work with is the concept of self-identification. How someone identifies as in terms of gender, orientation, racially, etc is all very good information and insight into the make up of a person. I make it a point not to assume I understand anything more than what the Client has said because identities can be fluid and can vary in definition depending on an individuals personal culture. I acknowledge and respect the intersectionality of the various ways my client chooses to identify themselves.
