My Background and Approach

I’m M (they/she), a Chicago-based artist, storyteller, and trauma survivor with training in counseling and art therapy. I grew up in rural Appalachia, and my own healing journey, especially through graphic narrative art, showed me how powerful creativity can be when it comes to making sense of pain and finding meaning again. I have deep respect for each person’s lived experience and am committed to healing that’s rooted in community, collaboration, and creativity. In therapy with me, your goals, needs, and personality lead the way. I bring warmth, curiosity, humor (yes, there will absolutely be puns), and acceptance of your whole self. I’m here to empower you with knowledge, skills, resources, and a safe relationship where your input truly comes first. Drawing from narrative, parts work, and somatic theories, I incorporate creative ideas into your unique treatment plan. Art-making in therapy is a judgment-free zone that is always an invitation and never required.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Client-centered: In therapy with me, you’re treated as an equal. Your therapy is shaped around your goals, personality, and preferences, not a preset model. Your input comes first, from appointment logistics to diagnosis. Empathy: I approach coping and survival strategies, including substance use and self-harm, with compassion rather than judgment. I practice harm reduction and support change only if and when you want it. Warmth & genuineness: I actively look for your strengths. My style is warm, down-to-earth, and conversational, with room for dark humor. Each client is worthy of deep care. Anti-oppressive: We explore how systems shape identity and pain, unlearn harmful messages, and reclaim power. We are survivors, not victims, capable of healing and authentic connection. Fun: Therapy can be something you look forward to, including walks, art, music, and other creative ideas. I love co-creating a space that feels engaging and yours.
