PTSD can be overwhelming and debilitating by nature. When working with clients exhibiting symptoms of PTSD, my primary goal is creating a sense of safety for the client. This is done by co-regulating through breathing exercises, mirroring, and grounding exercises. Once we have established a safe, containing space, we can begin to address the symptoms that impair functioning by providing psychoeducation and through cognitive restructuring.

As an art therapist, I am trained in using the arts (drawing, painting, collage, fiber arts, journaling, photography, poetry, sculpture, etc) to aid clients in identifying and expressing their thoughts and feelings. Art is the language of images, and as such, bypasses the verbal processing centers of the brain, making it universally accessible to clients of all ages and abilities.

CBT is a common type of talk therapy. It helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. CBT makes connections between your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. As a clinician, I am adept at identifying common themes and cognitive distortions that a client speaks about. By identifying these, we can then begin to alter these thoughts and behaviors.
