DBT changes lives. I had the opportunity for in-depth training in this model during my post-doctoral fellowship and went on to run DBT Skills Groups for Adults and Adolescents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have also had the privilege of working individually with clients using DBT and to have trained numerous staff and students in this work. I believe In DBT and apply it in my own life, and truly believe it helps people build a life worth living.
I love assessment. I believe that a strong understanding of clinical issues contributes to more effective treatment. After my doctoral training I completed a postdoctoral fellowship with strong additional training in assessment and then went on to work as a Director of Training and Psychological Testing Services in a community health center. I am experienced in evaluations for intellectual ability, learning issues and disorders, memory, attention, personality, and diagnostic clarification.
I have extensive training and experience in the treatment of both acute and complex traumas. I have explored a variety of techniques to manage these symptoms, including Trauma-Focused CBT, Third-Wave CBTs such as ACT and DBT, and Body-Based and Yoga techniques, as well as play therapy and attachment-based approaches with children. I also believe in exploring the systemic or inter-generational aspects of trauma, and the role of advocacy or systemic interventions in healing.
As a naturally anxious person, I can relate to the experiences of my anxious clients. I have found my training in Third-Wave CBT’s such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to be incredibly helpful in the treatment of anxiety. I not only “talk the talk” but “walk the walk” as I apply these techniques in my own life. I know how difficult it is to face these issues and I want you to know I will be right there with you.
I have extensive training and experience in the treatment of Personality Disorders, particularly Borderline Personality Disorder, utilizing DBT, ACT, and Relational models. I enjoy helping people understand how patterns developed related to thinking, emotional regulation, and relationships, and how to change those patterns to better meet their goals for a life worth living.
