About My Clients
Everyone needs support sometimes, especially in the times we’re living through. I'm a warm and empathetic listener, prepared to challenge and encourage as necessary. It's easy to forget our skills and strengths and I pride myself of finding them in you, then reflecting them back and reminding you of them. Stressors and triggers lie around every corner. We'll work together to find ways to acknowledge them without letting them derail you.
My Background and Approach
My approach is person-centered and strengths based and I strive to be a supportive presence. In our work together we’ll identify goals and develop strategies for reaching them, and we’ll look intentionally at how thoughts lead to actions. I’m specifically trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but use a variety of modalities depending on specific situations and needs. My work and training acknowledge the impact of systems on people. Cultural messages of inadequacy and hate can impact our day to day functioning. I work to acknowledge this impact and focus on liberation, seeking ways to both carry on and change systems. I also work to emphasize the importance of human connection and I believe the therapeutic relationship can be an effective starting point.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I identify as a gay cisgender male and my coming out took some time due to a great deal of internalized homophobia. I strongly believe that all oppressions are interrelated. I can't be a full throated advocate for the LGBTQ+ community unless I also show up for Black Lives Matter, for instance.
