About My Clients
I enjoy working with young adults overwhelmed with school and adults trying to figure out a work-life balance. I work well with couples (monogamous and non-monogamous) struggling with communication issues and individuals dealing with issues related to their family of origin and their relationships. Most of us need help figuring out what we feel and need, and most of us struggle to communicate our internal world effectively.
My Background and Approach
I consider myself a creative type because of my past as an actor and a dancer. I am also a movement instructor, I am very interested in anatomy and how our minds work, and I enjoy finding more accessible explanations to make sense of our nervous system and the brain. I believe mind and body are very strongly interrelated, and whatever happens to your body affects your mental health and vice-versa. You can expect me to use images and metaphors to explain myself. Right now, my nightstand has a book on polyvagal theory. In terms of psychological approaches, I consider myself a perpetual learner. I am drawn to approaches that are trauma-informed, borrow from attachment theory, and are evidence-based. I am seeking further training in IFS (a theory that sees us as having lots of parts that act as an internal family); ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which teaches psychological flexibility. EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) is my approach to couples, but I also borrow from Gottman.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that the struggle is real. Many of us have matured into functioning adults who have difficulty accepting they might need support. Life is more challenging than we are willing to accept, and we push ourselves to keep going because that’s what we ‘should’ do. We strive to nurture and maintain meaningful relationships; we doubt ourselves or feel like we should already know who we are and what we want. To top it all off, nowadays, everything goes fast. We live in a time of immediate gratification and expectations of peak performance at work or in our relationships. But life doesn’t give us much room to breathe or space to take care of our mental health, which makes us struggle to live a meaningful, vibrant, and fulfilling life.
