I have a minor in special education and I have worked with this population in various capacities for a decade. There is a large gap between mental health services and I/DD services that I hope to bridge. I’ve seen people with I/DD who could use someone who is there purely for support and to help them to love themselves more. I’ve seen more than a few parents and caregivers who could use that same support.
I, myself, have dealt with depression for the majority of my life. I have been in unbelievable emotional pain and I have had thoughts of suicide. I’ve also been in therapy on and off for nearly ten years and on medication for four. I’ve learned about what causes my depression and how to deal with it. Most importantly, I’ve learned how to be happier and how to thrive. I hope I can help others to do the same.
I have worked with people on the spectrum for the better part of a decade. Though I am not on the spectrum myself, many of my clients find comfort in my understanding of their neurodivergence and the traits attached to their autism.
I use EMDR as a tool to help people identify their trauma and heal from it.
