About My Clients

My clients want to make changes in their lives. They believe that healing is possible for both body and mind. When they feel safe enough, they bravely share the old stories about themselves and the no-longer-helpful ways of dealing with the world that kept them feeling sick or stuck. They keep showing up when the going gets rough, because they’ve seen for themselves that they can trust the process, and they’re willing to keep working it until it works, one day at a time.

My Background and Approach

I was born and raised in Chicago, got my Masters degree in Clinical Professional Psychology at Roosevelt University, and then added a certificate in Addictions Studies from Harold Washington College. I've been doing therapy on an official basis since 2011; unofficially, I got my earliest training in high school, when I was named by my peers as someone that people felt comfortable talking to about themselves, for 2 years in a row. These days, I’m a licensed professional counselor, a certified addictions counselor, a proud member of Kink and Poly Aware Chicago Therapists, and a person who has been in recovery from major depression for 20 years. Most of my work, with both adults and teenagers, has been with people who survived some trauma, managed as best they could, and are tired of feeling like they’re in the passenger seat in their own lives. I know what it takes to get back into the driver's seat, and I'd be honored to help you do the same.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that there are many roads to the top of the mountain and that there are many mountains worth climbing. I believe that Black lives matter, that Indigenous people are still here, and that being an anti-racist and an ally is lifelong work. I believe that everyone does the best with what they have and that all beings play their part in the interconnected web of life. I believe that acceptance is an active process: it means not fighting reality, releasing attachment to outcomes you cannot affect, and reclaiming that energy to change the things that you can. My interests include long-term individual and group healing work; experiential and somatic therapy; earth-based spirituality, paganism, Buddhism, meditation, mindfulness, ritual, and Zen practice; anything to do with the LGBTQIA+ community; and diversity of sexual and relational expression, including kink, Leather, consensual non-monogamy, and polyamory.
