Stories are powerful, and the clients who have welcomed me into theirs have shown me some of the ways that they have been storied: - As not enough - As a mess - As forsaken - As beyond hope Guided by the ethics of Narrative Therapy, I hope to remind you that you are not a problem - but problems are. I want to partner with you to be curious about and even rewrite the oppressive narratives that are getting in the way of you living a full and fun life.
My Background and Approach
Narrative Therapy is my preferred approach, and I tend to lean on it to support all of my clients. The goal of narrative is rich story development. By deconstructing stories - the stories that we tell ourselves and are surrounded by every day - it tends to become clear how they reinforce and strengthen problems (e.g., anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, substance use, trauma, etc). We can then work together to challenge and rewrite those stories to arrive at your preferred ways of existing and living.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Accessibility of mental health support is important to me, which is why I offer telehealth sessions exclusively. The mental health system has dehumanized people and localized problems within us historically - I believe that people are not problems, that problems are problems and that we can all use a little support with addressing and overcoming them. I believe that therapy is a doing with, not a doing for - I'm here as your partner and teammate, you are not alone. Lastly, humor and laughter are important to me, and I try to make space for that together in our sessions.
