About My Clients
Because of my training in evidence-based therapies, my approach to sessions is a structured one. I strongly believe that clients need to be incorporating what they are learning in sessions to their outside lives so I almost always give some type of homework to help with that process. I view therapy as a true collaboration and a team effort which means that while I am guiding us and teaching during our sessions, I also expect you to come in prepared with what you would like to work on each week.
My Background and Approach
My primary approaches to therapy are treating trauma and using Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), an evidence-based practice used to treat concerns such as perfectionism, loneliness, depression, and treatment-resistant anxiety. In 2019 I completed intensive RO-DBT training with the treatment founder, Dr. Thomas Lynch. I have significant training and experience treating trauma with a variety of treatments such as Prolonged Exposure and Written Exposure Therapy and I find that these work well in conjuction with my background in RO-DBT. I also have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and believe everyone deserves to sleep well. From time to time, I will also incorporate standard Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in my work with individuals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Life can be more than a little overwhelming these days. We live in a world that frequently rewards working harder, moving faster, and achieving more. I wish more people knew that the process of healing and growing doesn’t often follow those rules. I create safe and supportive spaces for my clients to explore, grow, and heal. Everyone deserves to have a space that is truly and uniquely their own to explore the complexity of their experience and I work to do that by letting my clients see my human side as much as my therapist side. While there are still days I wish I could give my clients all the answers, I’ve learned over time that it is kinder to use thoughtful questions and curious acceptance to help them discover those answers for themselves.
