Accepting Clients

My primary task as a therapist is to foster a safe and inclusive environment in which you can be your full self, without fear of judgment.

Clinical Psychologist in Chicago, IL

About My Clients

Has anyone ever told you to stop caring about what other people think about you? Many of my clients struggle with self-image and vulnerability due to a belief that they will be rejected if they allow others to see their authentic selves. My promise is to see, hear, and accept each part of you, especially those parts that you are afraid to show others. I am especially passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community, male-identified clients, and clients who have experienced complex trauma.

My Background and Approach

I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Chicago, and I provide virtual therapy to adult clients and couples, as well as evaluations and referral letters for gender-affirming care and emotional support animals. My foundation is in psychodynamic therapy, which is an insight-oriented approach rooted in two basic assumptions: present-day experiences are influenced by past experiences, and our behaviors are driven largely by subconscious motivations. The goal of psychodynamic therapy is to help clients gain a better understanding of themselves, which increases psychological flexibility and facilitates positive change. That said, I will work collaboratively with each client to develop a unique treatment approach that is tailored to their specific needs. My areas of practice include: LGBTQIA+ issues, men's issues, complex trauma, self-image, perfectionism, relationship concerns, ethical non-monogamy, anxiety, depression, high-conflict relationships, work concerns, and life transitions.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Historically, the field of clinical psychology has largely overlooked the influence of cultural and sociopolitical factors on human behavior and mental health. Our experiences do not occur in a vacuum, and in order for me to truly understand you, I must acknowledge and consider the multicultural context in which you live. Therefore, it is my responsibility to create a safe, affirming, and inclusive therapeutic space. In particular, I am committed to creating an environment that is anti-racist, anti-sexist, LGTBQIA-affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, and disability-affirming. Furthermore, it is my responsibility to recognize the limitations of my own knowledge, privilege, and lived experience. This is why I view cultural humility, as opposed to expertise, as a key component of culturally informed psychotherapy. When working with clients from all backgrounds, my aim is to lead with openness, curiosity, and flexibility, rather than authority.
