About My Clients
My clients are smart, thoughtful and good people but they just need some help. They come to me to receive support in getting clear on their goals and making changes needed to live genuinely and healthily. We work together in therapy. We draw on my clinical training, but more so we draw on your innate knowledge of yourself to guide our work together. Sometimes we work on practical skills and other times we will look further to understand the foundations of why you are how you are.
My Background and Approach
I was led to the practice of therapy only by seeking therapy as a client myself. After realizing the power that can occur in counseling, I made becoming a therapist my new focus. I studied at North Carolina State University in their Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, which focuses on educating diverse and forward thinking therapists. I draw on many different counseling theories like Existential therapy, Cultural-Relational therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I tailor my counseling approach to each individual that I work with. My goal is to meet my clients where they are at, understand them on a deeply personal level, and work alongside them to create change. I approach each session with an open mind, an attention to details, and with a sense of humor. Therapy is hard work but I will work hard right alongside you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that humans need deeply meaningful relationships. I strive to create meaningful relationships with my clients, but also seek to support them in nurturing their own relationships. I believe that we draw on all of our experiences during the practice of therapy. Likewise, I draw on my life's experience outside of being a therapist, like my former careers in professional music and in restaurant work. All of our experience is valid in the practice of therapy. In my free time, I like to play music, travel, cook, and play some video games.
