About My Clients

I specialize in pre-teens, adolescents and young adults. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, grief, and behavioral issues. I offer a safe space to explore, grow, and even have fun in the process. No prior experience or skill with art making is necessary to benefit from art therapy.

My Background and Approach

As an art therapist, I incorporate talk therapy with art making to help my clients unlock their creative potential, look at problems with fresh eyes, and develop new coping skills for dealing with difficult emotions. I utilize a humanistic (client-centered) and psychodynamic approach. I have a clinical masters degree in Art Therapy and Creativity Development and have experience providing individual, group, and family art therapy to a diverse group of clients of all ages in a variety of settings. If you or your child is feeling blocked by past trauma, stuck in destructive patterns, or overwhelmed by depression or anxiety, then I encourage you to reach out. You are not alone.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a long history of facilitating the powerful therapeutic relationship between art and young people who come from diverse communities. I am formally trained as a fine artist and my approach as an artist is through a social justice framework. My artwork deals with issues such as mental illness, addiction, and racial and gender identity. I also have a long history as an arts educator. I developed and directed the Fashion Art and Design Academy of Oakland Technical High School (formerly Far West High School) and taught art and design courses to adolescents there for ten years. Inspired by the healing power of the arts and the therapeutic relationships I built with my students as an art teacher, I then moved to New York to pursue clinical graduate studies in Art Therapy. Empowering communities in need through creativity is my life's passion. Please visit my website for more information about my practice and services.
