In my work with women of different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences, I have seen that much of anxiety can be traced back to the kind of world we experienced as children. My approach to anxiety includes some tools to help re-frame thoughts to help you get out of crisis mode. However, our main work will be to regulate your emotions and nervous system through identifying feelings, noticing body sensations, learning about your body and brain, and practicing small steps each day.

Depression can be described as anger internalized. Most people experiencing depression would never describe themselves as angry. As I work with women, many of whom have been expected to suppress their anger, as we peel back the layers of their emotions, naming them, validating them, we find a lot of unexpressed anger and feelings of helplessness.

Having a baby can be the most significant change a woman experiences. Yet, most healthcare providers are not specifically trained to help women with their fears, concerns, expectations, and learning curve as they enter this role. I have completed training through Postpartum Support International that focuses on maternal mental health care across the continuum so that families feel supported and get the best care possible.
