About My Clients
Therapy for adults (18+ with a special shout out to "millennials" and LGBTQ+) looking to better understand and cope with: anxiety, fear and panic, depression, life transitions, identity, and career counseling (exploration, decision-making, networking, all aspects of job searching, and "what even IS work, ugh" thoughts).
My Background and Approach
My style is very “active” in sessions, asking questions and offering encouragement as we work to identify barriers and align with your strengths. I am comfortable providing structure and teaching behavioral strategies for clients who enjoy this approach. Additionally, I believe in explaining the "why" behind any recommendation. With that said, therapy is not always "problem solving oriented." It can, and should, create a space to explore thoughts and feelings without specific direction, and always without judgement. We will decide how to approach therapy and our work together, as partners. I am grounded in trauma-informed, feminist-relational, and systems theories, and utilize narrative and cognitive interventions. My values of compassion, respect, authenticity, transparency, and humor inform how I show up in session and lay the foundation for a good working relationship.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a therapist, it is my job to disrupt the systems of trauma that have caused harm to my clients. I work to center my clients’ experiences and voices, and form a narrative in which my clients can connect with their power and strengths, both in our relationship, as well as others in their lives. I'm constantly working on decolonizing my practice, as well as my own identity. My experience as a teacher, researcher, and mentor led me to find that counseling was the perfect intersection between these roles and identities. I now have over 10 years of experience counseling adults in coping with anxiety and panic, depression, life changes and transitions, identity, and career. Additionally, I used to teach and provide career coaching at a university in Chicago, so I'm happy to integrate my knowledge and experience of job exploration and searching into our sessions as well (including the role of "work" in our social identities and beliefs as well).
