New parents and families with young children are in a unique moment of change in their lives. As a family therapist who works with culturally diverse families of young children, I offer an expertise in early childhood mental health, parenting issues, and all aspects of development.
My Background and Approach
Families and new parents may find they are struggling with challenges related to parenting their infants and young children. Often their search for support is difficult because of the unique challenges in understanding and treating young children. I have over 20 years of training and experience in infant and young child mental health. Family therapy with young children is both a developmental and a relational approach. Parents and caregivers can develop an understanding of their child's unique temperament, needs, and the meaning behind their child's most challenging behaviors. With this roadmap and through their relationships, parents are able to offer their child the support they need to grow and develop. I support the parents so they can then support their infants and young children.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I find these words from Fred Rogers to be an inspiration to worried parents; “There is no normal life that is free of pain. It’s the very wrestling with our problems that can be the impetus for growth.” When children are young and families are working hard to develop a solid foundation for their children and opportunities for them to blossom and thrive, it is a critically important time for the development of healthy patterns of relatedness. Children who have an early-on positive connection in life will have a source of resilience for dealing with life’s many challenges.
