About My Clients

My clients are the bravest people I know. They show up vulnerable and inquisitive. But above all else, they are fiercely committed to the belief that their lives can be richer and more free than when they began therapy. I work with people who have exiled certain parts of themselves into a place of hiding. Specifically, I work with marginalized populations, those who have experienced repetitive trauma, body trauma, eating disorders, STIs, fertility struggles and chronic feelings of inadequacy.

My Background and Approach

I work from the belief that human behavior is primarily shaped by relationships. Therefore, I take great interest in how my clients act, think, and feel in relationship to others, themselves and in the therapeutic relationship. The "fancy" term for this type of orientation is called relational or interpersonal. I also listen for what has happened in my clients' lives that brings them into treatment. This includes early development, upbringing, and attachment figures. The "fancy" term for this type of orientation is attachment theory and psychodynamic theory.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I do not believe that any person can be "fixed" through therapy because I don't believe that people are broken. Clocks break, bones break, people hurt. I strongly believe that people can understand themselves, learn to accept themselves and their limitations and rework maladaptive patterns by coming to therapy. I believe that we all judge and that we all hold biases. I also believe that many of us are unaware of the biases we hold and therefore we need others to bring our attention to our misjudgments. I believe that if we all could become more curious about our own biases, the world would be a safer place. I believe that society is evolving, but that this evolution is nonlinear and we will continue to have to cultivate inner peace in a world where stereotypes, biases and hate exist. I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to feel seen, heard, and appreciated. I hope to provide that space for you in therapy with me.
