My Background and Approach
Many of us can recognize patterns of our behavior that were previously helpful but now get in the way of the kinds of relationships we want. In many ways navigating difficult circumstances allowed us to survive or even thrive, however the ways we find now to cope don’t benefit us in the long run. We'll talk about the areas that you get stuck and take an inventory of the thoughts and actions that you have that contribute towards getting stuck. We'll grow your awareness in this particular area so that when you run into it again you'll have what you need to move through without losing your mental or emotional headspace.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I celebrate without judgement the things that make you you, whether they're things that have been handed to you or things you've chosen for yourself. If you haven't been born with layers of privilege, the world and its systems have been working against you for much of your life. Having a foot in two (or three or more) cultures is tiring on its own let alone that you are probably not fully accepted in either. I grew up in an Asian-American family in the Bay Area, my family's immigration roots are in Oakland and in San Francisco. I can still relate to those who look like me not being treated as if we belong. I believe in re-working the narrative and changing that story for ourselves and claiming space that might not have been given to us. If you want to learn more, please send me a message.
