About My Clients
I help recovering perfectionists, kind-hearted-givers, and sweet-souled people-pleasers feel worthy of turning their big loving hearts toward themselves so they can feel more agency and alignment in their lives. In a time of increasing state violence and surveillance, it's more important than ever that we learn how to tend to ourselves so that we can show up to our communities with energy to give. I'd love to introduce you to the parts of you that can help you feel more free :)
My Background and Approach
I'm most deeply trained in Gestalt therapy, which is a client-centered approach that holds you (the client) as the expert of your own experience, and offers invitations to build awareness of your present moment experience, including sensations, "parts," needs, wants, and boundaries. We go at your pace, and begin with what's most important to you. I offer a loving presence and options to meet your experience through various pathways, including what may be happening in your body, the meaning you're making of your experience, and noticing the "parts" of you that may be coming up. We can use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to work with your "parts," which often means bringing some curiosity and compassion into the mix, and can sometimes mean going on a healing journey around specific or repetitive experiences of trauma. Often my clients say they feel a greater sense of freedom and self-love from doing this work with me.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I practice Buddhism and try to live a life inspired by the Bodhisattvas, meaning that I pray for the end of suffering of all beings, and dedicate my life toward the work of collective liberation. I strive for nonviolence (a task that is actually impossible in "the belly of the beast," but *shrug* we do our best ;)). I'm vegan. I'm an active member of Healthcare Workers for Palestine Bay Area. I work with other white folks in community to dismantle our internalized racial supremacy, and I'm learning to repair my ancestral lineage so that I can more deeply align with my people, our cultures and values - which is incredibly important work for white folks to do, IMHO! The trauma of whiteness impacts us all deeply, and we must grieve what has been lost to assimilation before we can begin to build a new future that is not predicated on the theft of intact cultures.
