About My Clients
I work with teens, younger adults, and older adults, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based interventions, and EMDR, among other modalities. The path to better mental health is unique to each individual, and I value a diversity of approaches to healing. There's no one right way to feel better, and I value the cultural traditions clients call upon to integrate into their healing process, including the use of plant medicines / entheogens.
My Background and Approach
I believe that any person is capable of growth and healing. My approach to the therapeutic process is a collaborative one, in which I work with my clients to find their personal strengths and help them utilize those strengths as they address their own challenges and work toward improving their lives. I also believe it's important to recognize both the internal and external factors that impact one's mental health, and I see it as my job to help clients recognize what external factors are creating stress, and then work with them to develop strategies to manage, minimize or eliminate those stressors.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in human liberation, and by this I mean allowing people to think, feel, create, love, and express themselves in ways that are most authentic to them, while also respecting and allowing for the authentic existence of those they share this world with. Throughout much of my life I have engaged in activism around economic justice, racial equality, and in defense of our natural world. As someone who uses music to process many of my own feelings, much of my creative output has focused on these beliefs and our capacity to grow and evolve as a species in a way that better respects our planet and each other. Additionally, I believe much of the value of therapy comes from feeling seen and heard by another living, breathing human being. For this reason, I do not utilize artificial intelligence in any aspect of my work.
