Omolade Rosalyn Roddy, LCSW (she/her/they/them)

LCSW

Greetings, I'm Omolade. I have 30 years + of professional experience utilizing a critical psychotherapeutic framework,

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oakland, CA

About My Clients

I provide holistic, strength-based, collaborative, non-diagnostic & sex-positive psychotherapy which focuses on building resilience, empowerment and letting go of shame. My practice is informed by the work and lessons learned from all that I serve; however, the true success of my practice has been developed through my work serving those impacted by institutional betrayal (trauma) related to criminal justice, mental health educational, military, foster-care and HIV impacted systems.

My Background and Approach

Critical Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) , Psycho-education, Traditional African & Native American Rituals are some of the modalities that I use to bring insight, healing and transformation to those I serve. I approach cases from a critical therapeutic perspective which considers how race, class, gender and socio/cultural conditions impact identity and the day-to-day functioning of individuals and communities. I am licensed in the state of California (LCS28484); Certified in Anger Management Group Facilitation, Restorative Justice Circle Facilitation; Parenting Skills (Nurturing Parenting Model) and Batterers Group Facilitation; as well as trained in the facilitation of Emotional Emancipation (EE) Circles, “Seeking Safety” (trauma focused psycho-education) and have advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I approach each clinical relationship from a critical therapeutic perspective; which takes into account how race, class, gender and socio/cultural conditions impact identity and the day-to-day functioning of individuals and communities. Often the use of psychiatric diagnoses impose stigmatized and standardized beliefs about mental and cognitive health differences. Not everyone seeking therapy has a mental illness or disorder. Some struggle with life stressors and transitions, and only need to discuss their thoughts and feelings with a professional. Not accepting Insurance ,Medi-Cal or Medi-Care allows me the flexibility needed to draw upon the strength-based, non-diagnostic clinical approaches and move beyond the symptom management focus that diagnostic paradigms encourage.I also provide clinical support in efforts of empowering the formerly incarcerated and their families with the tools needed for healing and navigating the complex challenges of reentering their communities.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
