About My Clients

I do my best work with clients who appreciate learning about the knowledge and resources our bodies provide for healing. As a somatic therapist, I blend traditional talk therapy with somatic practices, and layer in education on how the brain is hardwired to sense danger, and how we can use mindfulness to create new neural pathways for healing. Many of my clients find themselves in transition, poised to step towards what's next, while maybe still struggling to let go and allow for change.

My Background and Approach

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in policy advocacy and community organizing. I spent the early part of my career as a political and union organizer, focusing on social justice issues. I learned to see how the intersection of race, gender and sexuality, dis/ability, and socioeconomic status informs access to housing, education, healthcare, fair wages, healthy food, and moreover, has a strong correlation to outcomes related to higher rates of engagement with the prison system, higher infant mortality rates and shorter life expectancy. In my direct, clinical work with individuals, I remain anchored in an intersectional framework and my understanding of how systems, such as public institutions, can directly affect the everyday lives of people. To ignore these external factors often leaves a client feeling they are somehow the problem, incapable of managing life. I strive to contextualize the external factors to promote a deeper sense of agency towards healing.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

During the pandemic, some of us have experienced the loss of connection to community and belonging; the loss of purpose and motivation to engage; the loss of knowing and trust of self. As we enter this period of emergence, we may be asking ourselves, now what? What am I doing and how did I get here? Where am I going? When will I know I have arrived? I wonder if you have noticed your ability to endure, to seek equilibrium, and to allow for new patterns to emerge. You have been residing in this space for some time now, and it's been hard, and you are doing great! Is it time to gather all that you have learned and start making your way towards the exit, fully into what is next? My practice blends traditional talk therapy with a body-focused, somatic approach. We live in and through our bodies; fostering awareness of what the body holds for us yields great opportunities for healing.
