I've got through Level One and Level Two of the Gottman training. I also use the Gottman Couples Assessment Tool as part of my couple work. I love the assessment as it gives such a clear picture of not just the trouble areas, but also areas of strength for the couple. Based on this assessment I use specific activities geared towards addressing the areas of concern for the couple. It gives out work focus and direction, which my clients find comfort in.

Narrative Therapy is the lens that I see everything else through. Narrative Therapy is all about telling your story. I believe there is deep power is sharing the story of who you are, and deciding how you want to write the rest of your chapters for the future. I've found that when people tell their story, they're able to take control and not feel like this is something that happened to them, but rather just another part of their story. It's does not define you if you don't want it to.

Relationship issues are the focus of my practice, and also what drew me to this work in the first place . Even when I see people individually typically they're discussing their relationships- whether romantic or otherwise. Relationships are key in our lives, and there's nothing I love more than helping people struggling in a relationship, start to find their footing and gain confidence and connection with each other again.

I see people who have had recent loss and are battling through that first year, which can be endlessly exhausting and challenging. Traveling through a first year and hitting all those milestones of anniversaries, holidays that trigger the feeling of loss are so hard, it's understandable that people seek extra support in those times to get help navigating the ever changing landscape of grief. What I also see is people who have been living with grief for years but not actually healing. I can help

Women's Issues are not issues unique to women or that typically effect more women than men (ie: motherhood, sexual trauma, domestic violence, etc) these issues are humans rights issues and effect all people. I draw attention to these issues, but also see things through the lens of gender, and connect preconceived notions or expectations placed on women by culture and society. The ideas of what a women should be are changing, and I work with women who are carving out their own definitions.

While in school my focus was immediately on couple work, and that has continued throughout my practice and accounts for the bulk of my work. Over the years a unique addition came in the form of divorced or separated pairs seeking to co-parent effectively. I've worked with many families like this and it's become a passion of mine to help families function well even when they've decided to live apart.

How we tell our stories from the past have great impact on how we write our future. By telling your story out loud we begin to look at elements that you have been seeing too harshly, that might have been told you to but aren't really yours, or parts that are outright lies. We look at those stories from the past and re-author anything that doesn't fit with your truth. This give us direction to take power in writing all the chapters that come next.
