Many of my clients experience addiction, either process or substance addiction. We develop these survival traits and behaviors to escape our bodies, feelings & thoughts. Sometimes we are so good at it we aren’t even aware we are doing it. Many healing through addiction have experiences of trauma, emotional neglect or abuse, and other childhood and life circumstances that are difficult to process. Therapy can be a helpful complement and accelerate 12-step and group work for those with addiction.
Many of the individual clients I work with experience anxiety and anxiety related issues. Many times it’s paired with perfectionistic tendencies, a drive to work hard, and be successful academically or career wise. Feelings of never good enough, lack of fulfillment and wondering what’s wrong with themselves. Fear, sadness, anger & hurt often underlie feelings of anxiety and I work with clients to alleviate the psychological forces contributing to their distress .
