About My Clients
As a special needs parent, I know how hard it is to feel in balance. Over my career, I have enjoyed working with parents and caregivers in finding that balance. I have significant experience working with what I like to call "stay-at-home-mom depression" and post-partum mental illness. Over my career I have had the benefit to work with a variety of issues and populations. I am a good fit for someone who wants a supportive, empathetic, challenging therapist who will be real and direct with you.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed associate counselor with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and I am currently pending as a licensed professional counselor with the board. I am also board certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board for Certified Counselors. My therapeutic style can best be described as warm, straight forward, and humorous. I have a strong belief that my clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. I view that my job as a therapist is to assist my clients in finding their own meaning, purpose, and direction in life. To do this, I challenge my clients to live their lives authentically and according to their own moral compass. I have a non-judgmental, personal-centered therapeutic approach. I work with my clients on taming that inner critic, which I like to refer to as their gremlin, and ever so politely showing it their most expressive finger.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have a strong belief that the only person on whom I am an expert, is myself. I do not feel it is my job to tell my clients what to do, but rather assist them in finding the direction that is most congruent and authentic to them. I value justice and authenticity. I understand that as a white, upper-middle-class woman who was raised in a Christian household, I have significant privilege. I believe it is my responsibility to advocate for those with less privilege to have the same opportunities as I.
