I've worked in addiction counseling for homeless men in early recovery, as well as partial hospitalization program for adults in extended recovery. I believe strongly in dual diagnosis, which claims that substance abuse is never just a problem, but always an attempt to solve a different problem. I believe in harm reduction. I believe that substance use is an expression of our desire to make peace with ourselves and the world.

Life transitions, whether positive or negative, are times of crisis. "Everything's up in the air!" "I don't know who I am anymore!" We will work together to identify stable aspects of your identity, and develop skills and practices for strength and hope in the future.

On a journey of self-discovery? Heck yes, let's do this! I can help you develop your life story, become its author. Growth happens in so many dimensions-- cognitively, emotionally, somatically, socially, culturally, etc. Let's do this.

Sometimes the easiest way to change our mood is by changing our thoughts and behaviors. Cognitive work is delicate work-- it's important to understand how even 'unhelpful' thoughts start out as attempts to manage ourselves. Let's start from there, and find alternate/broader perspectives that give you more options in any situation.

When it comes down to it, all personal issues are about one or more of the following: freedom, connection/isolation, meaning/meaningless, and death. Getting realistic and courageous about existential themes helps us live better lives, be better people, and have better relationships.
