If we have experienced trauma or other adverse experiences, we often have unwanted behaviors, feelings, core beliefs and even physical symptoms that show up in the present. EMDR is a targeted therapy to process traumatic memories and core beliefs in a way that relieves the associated visceral reactions we feel . I describe it as "not erasing the memory but turning it into a less charged memory."
Sometimes using techniques that go beyond "talk therapy" that include embodiment of our thoughts and emotions can be helpful for grounding/calming, accessing insight and even finding inspiration.

As a person in long-term recovery and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, I understand how substance use can impact your relationships, employment. motivation, judgment and sense of wellbeing.
