Sometimes using techniques that go beyond "talk therapy" that include embodiment of our thoughts and emotions can be helpful for grounding/calming, accessing insight and even finding inspiration.
If we have experienced trauma or other adverse experiences, we often have unwanted behaviors, feelings, core beliefs and even physical symptoms that show up in the present. EMDR is a targeted therapy to process traumatic memories and core beliefs in a way that relieves the associated visceral reactions we feel . I describe it as "not erasing the memory but turning it into a less charged memory."
