About My Clients
My clients come from all walks of life, but my passion is serving underserved populations such as the LGBTQIA community and people of color. Many of my clients have experienced racial or religious trauma due to their ethnic and/or sexual identities. I am particularly interested in helping male survivors of sexual trauma, a group that is often overlooked and highly stigmatized.
My Background and Approach
I am an LPC associate currently under the supervision of Dr. Robert K Franklin, PhD, LPC-S. My approach to therapy is collaborative and client-led and I lean heavily on Narrative, CBT, and Existential Therapy in my work. We will spend time figuring out what ways of thinking are holding you back and re-write your story so that you feel empowered to cope with life's ups and downs. Perhaps you've been through trauma and are really looking at it for the first time. I'll provide a safe space where you can process your pain and target the problem from the root. I am currently being trained in and can provide EMDR for clients, which is a highly effective treatment for PTSD. As for me, I'm creative and artsy, so we can also do some expressive art and creative activities if it helps unlock your emotions. I also believe there's a place for humor in session and it can help to laugh at how absurd life can feel sometimes. We can't escape suffering, but we can find ways to cope with it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have been a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ, Latino and BIPOC communities since I was in undergrad at the University of Texas. I became a counselor because I wanted to change the face of the profession and be a safe space for people who might otherwise avoid seeking help. I believe in culturally informed care as much as I practice trauma-informed care, and I understand that the two can often go hand-in-hand. I also participate in several groups where I interface with other counselors of color to not only support each other, but to learn how to be better advocates for our clients. My personal motto: "That which gives light must endure burning." - Viktor Frankl
