About My Clients
I work with individual adult clients who often struggle with making the changes they want in their lives. The reluctance could be related to their symptoms of depression or anxiety, trauma memories, past negative experiences in therapy, avoidance of the problems, or even the stigma of mental health that stops them from engaging in care. Despite these obstacles, my ideal client still take the courageous steps to engage in therapy and work on themselves.
My Background and Approach
I completed my PhD at SUNY Albany's Counseling Psych program in 2011 and have worked in various VA hospitals across the country for 14 years as a licensed clinical psychologist. My theoretical approach combines humanistic, behavioral, and multicultural perspectives. This means that I try to see you as a whole person, made from your past experiences, unique perspectives, and individualized feelings and emotions. This helps me understand the challenges you are experiencing and how you have learned to adapt, behave, and grow from your past history in the best way that you knew at the time. I want to help support you as you process through these experiences and its impact on your life now. I use evidence-based therapy whenever possible, which are therapies that have a proven track record of effectiveness according to research.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I often tell my clients that taking care of our mental health is crucial to taking care of ALL of us. If we can make the effort to take care of our bodies, our people, and our belongings, why can't we make the same effort to care for our minds? I can be the support that you need as you make the time to take care of your mental health. Over the last decade, I have dedicated my work to helping veterans with their trauma memories and other life stressors. Now I look forward to providing that same level of expertise to everyone seeking to work on themselves, with issues ranging from trauma (including childhood, military, and civilian traumas), sleep difficulties like insomnia, navigating life transitions, struggling with racial/ethnic identity due to racism, depression and anxiety, and so on. I believe therapy is for everyone and can be a great source of support during difficult times. I hope I can be a source of support for you.
