Lauren Puleo

Throughout my career working in the substance abuse private sector, I have gained vast experience working with clients with significant trauma. This includes severe sexual, emotional and physical trauma. I have worked with several Veterans battling PTSD and substance abuse problems.

I have worked since 2014 in the substance abuse field, both as a primary therapist and clinical director. I have an extremely deep knowledge of recovery, 12-Step practices and the roots that cause chemical dependency. My significant other has battled drug addiction for many years and is now in recovery, giving me a personal experience to what families endure during these devastating times.

I am specifically licensed in Marriage therapy and have been trained using the Gottman Method for couples therapy. I have worked with couples coping with affairs, substance abuse issues and ongoing infidelity issues. These issues have been worked through with researched and evidenced based practices to rebuild friendship, trust and intimacy.

My Master's Degree was awarded in Family Therapy. During my education, all courses were taught under the theoretical perspective of systems theory. I work from an orientation of context and relationship, quoting "all behavior makes sense in context".

I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 of the Gottman Method for marriage therapy. I only use this orientation and interventions in my private practice working with couples. I am scheduled to attend the last level, Level 3, this upcoming July.

I have worked for five years in drug and alcohol treatment centers, both as a primary therapist and clinical director. I am a Master's Level Certified Addiction Professional specializing in the education and treatment of chemical dependency.
