About My Clients

I recognize that sometimes life can present obstacles, and in those obstacles, we may feel isolated, like our options are narrow, and things seem too hard. In those instances, we can become acquainted with curiously exploring our pain and suffering with the intention of growing and becoming more adaptive. As Dr. Yalom says, "to fully relate to one another, one must first relate to oneself. If we cannot embrace our own aloneness, we will simply use the other as a shield against isolation."

My Background and Approach

I draw from several frameworks. I provide tools and resources pertaining to attachment theory, distress tolerance, mindfulness skills, and committed action. I understand that life presents us with challenges, and sometimes we need subtle techniques to help our public selves. Likewise, we can determine practices and and resources to accommodate our private selves. The therapeutic alliance can foster profound collaboration to strengthen affect regulation, body-awareness, and patience to alleviate the impact of symptoms and move toward value-driven actions. We can discuss what you are thinking. We can notice how our relational patterns show up in our daily interactions. Then, we can adjust how to explore options for how to respond in your environmental and relational contexts.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that we have have basic needs. We have needs for personal-power, freedom, fun, survival, and secure connections (a choice-theory perspective). Sometimes these needs were not met or we have difficulty attending to them. I think that it is important to reflect upon what matters in your life, and what you consider to be your responsibility to achieve the flourishing life. Sometimes thoughts, insecurities, and behaviors can be taught, and they do not serve us in the best capacity. In those instances, I believe that humans are capable of learning new things. There is power and brevity in recognizing choices, and there is autonomy to choose how to engage with those circumstances through the collaborative process.
